When Mary was just five years old, her family moved to Utah, Sandy. She attended advanced classes at Peruvian Park Elementary. Mary was studied dance in Chicago in a Joffrey Ballet summer program and sang in the International Children’s Choir. During Mary’s youth age, she initially hoped for pursuing a career and appeared as a ballerina in local ballet productions. She was forced to quit ballet as she entered her teens due to her height.
Mary later mentioned, “I discovered pretty early on that I was already tall when I was 13… you know, your body has to remain that the way for the entire life, and it’s pretty hard on your bones and your muscles.” Realizing that a dance profession was unlikely, Mary turned her career to the acting field.
